firefly@Juggernaut:~$ about:me
My name is Gerardo Galindez, I’m also known as “Firefly”. I live in Mexico City and I’m studying Computational Systems Engineering in ITESM. That’s enough about me, I’m going to use my About page as a summary of who am I and what have I done.
And of course, about this blog.
To be honest, this is one of many other blogs I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve written previously in lots of places, in a lot of different topics. Even though, most of them, could be merged into one word:
Geek
Perhaps, that’s one of the only things that really means something to me. Since the very beginning of my life, I was always really fond to technology. I remember when my father brought the first computer we had. It was an Acer Aspire with a Pentium I @ 96 Mhz, 4 MB of RAM and about 400 MB of HDD. It was simply awesome. No one could actually believe the power of that computer, it even had a Sound Blaster Stereo card, and I could even play games in it.
In other words, unbelievable.
Slowly, my love for technology started to grow. I loved computers almost for all my life. I have always enjoyed solving new problems and testing new software.
Before I got to high school, I had already learnt to use lots of multimedia formats, torrent servers and specific applications to get everything I needed done. When I got to high school, I started to study the web standars and a little bit about servers. One day, surfing the web as I usually did, I found that there was another system I didn’t even know. Another OS named Linux.
I didn’t even know what it was all about, but anyway I decided to give it a try. I downloaded Debian and burned it in a CD, and I got ready to steal the computer of the house. It took a long time to install, but when it was over, I was totally excited. I was using the very same system that the great hackers use.
Even though, this didn’t last much. I found it was an extremely difficult system to use, so I got immediatly a tutorial to learn how to use it. Then, I got Ubuntu, as it was way easier to use. I was astonished when I used it for the first time. I was really happy with it, I could install anything I wanted, I got every single tool I needed, and the best part, it was extremely fast. I actually thought my Windows-days where over.
But… I realized I needed M$ and Windows. Every program I used in school (obviously) needed Windows. A lot of important things I had to do, needed Windows. I got really sad and angry when I used again Windows. Everything looked so slow and ugly I couldn’t believe it. My family didn’t like it of course. I had dissapeared completely Windows from the home computer…
Anyway, it would be quite a long story to tell everything I’ve done about Linux in my life. I’ll write about it for sure someday, when I have a lot of available time. For now, I’ll just say I installed Linux in my new laptop and I’m very happy with it. As I said in my introduction, this blog’s main purpose is to publish my projects, and a lot of them are about Linux.
This is a little bit about me. About my life and my story about technology, computers and Linux. I hope this section will become bigger and bigger, as I fill it with new things that happen and new things I’ll learn.
